At the invitation of Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess, His Excellency Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, and Mrs. Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam began a two-day State Visit to Luxembourg on Thursday.
Fifty years ago, in March 1975, the governments of Singapore and Luxembourg established diplomatic relations, and this visit is part of the ongoing development of our economic and political ties. Today, this relationship is built on strong foundations, with a shared commitment to the rule of law and a globally integrated economy.
The delegations will explore new avenues of cooperation in sectors such as finance, FinTech, telecommunications, and civil security.

This morning, the Grand Ducal Couple welcomed the Singaporean Presidential Couple in front of the Grand Ducal Palace for the traditional welcoming ceremony, which was immediately followed by a bilateral meeting. The Presidential Couple then laid a wreath at the National Monument of Luxembourgish Solidarity.
After the ceremony, President Shanmugaratnam met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mr. Claude Wiseler, and then with Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Xavier Bettel at the Palace.
